Weekly Update from Our Director and CEO, Stephan Jost

Hello Everyone,

  • We had a very successful launch of Anthropocene this week. Such an effort takes work from many teams throughout the museum – pretty much all of you have been involved in one way or another. Our Curators’ Circle and Members’ previews have been well attended, which bodes well for general interest once we open to the public this weekend. I think the content will spark a broader dialogue about human impact on our shared planet. See the movie too! It opens in theatres today.

  • Tomorrow night is Nuit Blanche. There are a lot of events going on throughout the city, particularly in Scarborough this year. I will be visiting the AGO tomorrow evening to see Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier’s video installation Ancient Forest Alliance. Jennifer and Nick have created a compelling immersive experience in Walker Court, offering visitors a chance to experience both old-growth forest and deforestation on Vancouver Island. Thank you to all staff and volunteers who will be working a very LONG day and night tomorrow to ensure our visitors enjoy Nuit Blanche at the AGO.

  • I am in New York City today viewing the David Wojnarowicz exhibiton at the Whitney and the Delacroix retrospective at the Met. It’s a quick 1-day trip to see great art and explore what other leading museums are up to. I’ll be back in the office on Monday.

Enjoy the weekend,

Stephan
