Weekly Message from our Director and CEO, Stephan Jost

Hello Everyone,

  • Apple CEO, Tim Cook, visited the AGO last Sunday evening to see the ReBlink exhibition. Believe it or not it was his first visit to Canada and his first stop was a couple of hours here at the AGO. He loved our art on the 2nd floor, enjoyed a great visit in ReBlink, and was particularly interested in the conversations Canada is engaging with Indigenous communities. Artists and creative thinkers lead the way to innovation and technology and it is wonderful that our museum is a platform for experimentation. If you haven’t checked out ReBlink on the 2nd floor, do so soon!
  • I am thinking more and more about Yayoi Kusama as being one of the most important artists of our time. Her work is extraordinary. It is great that Visitor Services is so well prepared for ticketing, that our Marketing is totally on point, and that Curatorial is engaged. But what excites me most is showcasing Kusama’s amazing artistry and seeing how the public enjoys the experience.
  • At the Managers’ meeting on Tuesday, I mentioned that LT has identified 5 key operational priorities for 2018/19 to help Managers budget for the next fiscal year. More details will be shared in the coming months but in summary, they are: ensuring that Look:Forward is completed; creating public programs and exhibitions that resonate globally and locally; making the AGO more accessible; preparing to launch a new major development campaign; and implementing a long-term diversity and inclusion strategy.

Enjoy the weekend,

Stephan
