Weekly Message from our Director and CEO

Hello Everyone,

  • Congratulations to David Wistow, recently retired from the AGO. He has been given the honorary title Educator Emeritus in recognition of his outstanding service to the Gallery over several decades. Stay tuned for more details about David’s celebratory retirement event, coming up in May.
  • The Gallery is buzzing this week! Thank you to Kristoph Karbach and the folks in the Contact Centre who do an amazing job coordinating and booking visitors and school groups. There were 400 teachers here on Wednesday night! The teacher program is a collaboration between Kristoph’s team and staff in the School and Teacher Program.
  • Big shout out to Development staff and everyone throughout the Gallery who helped make Massive Party a massive success last night. Events of this size and scope cannot happen without multiple teams working seamlessly together with one another. The pictures on social media were fantastic – I am really impressed by the effort.
  • I am giving a talk today at the Aspen Art Museum in Colorado. It’s snowing here! The topic is “Towards a more civil world: flight from violence and our response”. I’ll be featuring great works from the AGO’s collection such as Rubens’ Massacre of the Innocents and Félix González-Torres’ Untitled (Strange Bird), in addition to images from the Theaster Gates and Francis Alÿs shows.

See you on Monday, enjoy the weekend,

Stephan
