As part of a series  highlighting the people that make up the AGO, Weekend/Evening Gallery Guide Brittney Sproule was recently featured on the AGO website.  You can read here all about her background, her favourite works and artists, what she enjoys most about volunteering – as well as an interesting fact you may not know about her!

Here are a few more tidbits that didn’t make it into the article:

Describe a memorable volunteer/visitor experience
When I first started as a Guide, I was shadowing a tour lead by my colleague Betty Chen. She led us to the Thomson ship collection, which I honestly don’t think I had ever visited on my own at that point. I initially knew absolutely nothing about the models, however Betty’s fantastic overview about the collection as a whole and the construction and use of the models themselves totally stuck with me. Since that experience, I make a point to include the Ships in my own highlights tours as often as possible in hopes that visitors are just as (perhaps unexpectedly) inspired by these objects as I was.

What do you like best about volunteering at the AGO?
One of the things I like best about being a Gallery Guide is working with so many fabulous GG colleagues (who have become my good friends!) and learning about artworks through each other’s knowledge and personal experiences with works in the collection. I also love having the freedom and flexibility to create dot talks and tours about any works I choose in the gallery!

Thanks Brittney!
