Kathy Lochnan

Kathy LochnanDear Everyone,

It is with respect and appreciation that I announce that Kathy Lochnan, Senior Curator, International Exhibitions, retired from the Gallery on October 31.

Although she has officially retired, Kathy is working on contract for the AGO as Senior Curator, International Exhibitions, until the closing of Mystical Landscapes at the Musee D’Orsay at the end of June. After this, Kathy will be appointed Senior Curator, Emerita, an honorary designation that recognizes her 47 years of distinguished service to Gallery, as well as her extraordinary academic and professional accomplishments. Kathy will continue to be closely engaged with us as a friend of the Gallery.

Kathy’s contributions to the Gallery have shaped the AGO immeasurably. Notably, Kathy led the developed of the foremost collection of European Prints and Drawings in Canada. Her reputation and expertise have led to significant international partnerships with museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the British Museum, Tate Britain, the Musée d’Orsay and the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

During her career, Kathy has created some of our most important and successful exhibitions to date. Some highlights include: David Milne: Painting Toward the Light; Turner, Whistler, Monet; Drawing Attention: Five Centuries of Drawings from the Art Gallery of Ontario, and Black Ice: David Blackwood’s Prints of Newfoundland. Kathy’s current and most ambitious international exhibition Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, Van Gogh and more has just opened at the AGO to rave reviews and packed galleries.

This spring, we will celebrate her many accomplishments and wish her well. Stay tuned for further details as they become available.
