AGO Launches New Interactive Website

Lodz Ghetto

Lodz Ghetto

The AGO is launching an interactive website and digital archives of more than 4,000 images from its Henryk Ross Collection of Lodz Ghetto Photographs, marking the 70th anniversary of the unearthing of the negatives in 1945.

The Henryk Ross Collection receives more public inquiries than any other body of work in the AGO’s collection. Featuring digital renderings of the artist’s original negatives, www.AGOLodzGhetto.com offers an opportunity for members of the public to search for images by theme, build groupings of photographs, tag images and discuss the collection with other users and the AGO. A special section for teachers and students offers four lesson plans for classroom use, in addition to resources that allow interested people to address modern human rights issues.

The project will transform how we distribute, publish, teach and interact with our public and offer an unparalleled opportunity to trace family histories, reflect on the events of World War II, and ignite conversations about continuing issues today. The website and archives were built by a large, cross-institutional team ably managed by Liana Radvak, Manager, Collection Information & Resources. The project, led by Judy Koke, Chief, Public Programming and Learning, was a partnership with Facing History and Ourselves with additional input from the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre.

The Henryk Ross Collection was generously gifted to the AGO by the Archive of Modern Conflict in 2007.
