A Message from Matthew Teitelbaum, our Director and CEO

Hello Volunteers,

Staff and volunteers who were at the AGO this morning were called into a meeting just before noon so that Matthew could share the following news with us.

Matthew has just scheduled an All Staff and Volunteer Meeting for tomorrow, Friday April 10 at 10:00am in Baillie Court, so that he can meet with us and we can all discuss the news together. This is not a mandatory meeting, but please feel free to join us if you’d like. I am including Matthew’s message in its entirety, below.

Dear Colleagues:

A few minutes ago you gathered in Jackman Hall so that I could share (regrettably at a distance) the news that I will be leaving the gallery in late June to become the Director of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts at the beginning of August.

I wanted you to know this directly from me and wish I could have been there with you. For many, we have worked together for a long time; for others you have joined under my watch. To all, you have made us better. Your commitment is extraordinary and for this – for everything – I thank you.

The MFA in Boston is a wonderful institution with remarkable collections, and I am drawn by the new ideas I will explore. And yet, in every sense, it is bittersweet, for I feel the AGO is poised for a great next step (a big step), and I am confident in its direction, its leadership and all of you.

I am in Boston for a day and half of introduction, and press contacts, returning early on Friday to join you in Baillie Court at 10:00am. I will look forward to seeing you. There is not a single thing we achieved in the last 21 years without the belief, engagement and commitment of the AGO’s staff and volunteers. It means the world to me.

With all good wishes,

Matthew
