Meet the Volunteer Executive – Laurie Herd, Daytime GGs

Laurie Herd
What is your role on the VEC?
My role on the VEC is to represent the interests of the Daytime Gallery Guides to the Volunteer Executive and staff representatives, as well as assisting the Committee where needed at the request of the Co-Presidents or other Exec members. I want to make sure that the Daytime Guides’ concerns and suggestions are understood and addressed.  My hope is that the increased respect and recognition for our contributions that I have seen over the past few years will continue to grow.
What is your AGO volunteer background?
I began my volunteer career at the AGO in 2002 as a High School Guide, then moved to the Daytime Guide program in 2008.  I worked on the Docent Symposium in 2009 and was Co-Chair of Travel AGO before the program was discontinued.  I returned to the Daytime Guide program 2 years ago.
What do you like best about volunteering at the AGO?
I volunteer at the AGO because I love studying art and talking about it!  My favourite part of talking about art to the visitors is when they tell me that the art is so much more meaningful when they know something about it.
