Weekly Message from Our Director and CEO, Stephan Jost

Hello everyone,

  • I took a few close supporters of the AGO through the Brian Jungen exhibit on Wednesday evening. The galleries were buzzing with visitors and my guests remarked on the palpable energy throughout the building. I enjoyed viewing Brian’s works one last time and I hope you have the chance to visit Zacks before the show closes this weekend.
  • A new acquisition was installed in the Fudger Memorial Gallery this week – a work by Gustave Caillebotte that was part of a long saga related to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board (CCPERB), as you might recall from my post of earlier this year. Through a legal process involving other museums from across Canada, we were able to resolve the situation in a satisfactory manner. The end result is that there is an important Impressionist painting in the museum for our public.
  • I will miss seeing AGO campers exploring galleries and having fun in Grange Park when camp ends this month. Every morning when I walk into the building I have been greeted by their youthful enthusiasm and curiosity. It takes A LOT of people to run smooth camp sessions and I appreciate everyone’s focus to ensure the kids are safe, learn and have fun.

Enjoy the weekend,

Stephan
