Prints & Drawings Talk for February: Ernst Barlach

The second Friday of every month, one of P&D’s knowledgeable volunteers will give a talk that explores an area of the AGO’s P&D Collection.

Der Neue Tag (The New Day). 1932

Join us in the P&D Study Centre for:

Ernst Barlach: German Expressionist Sculptor, Printmaker, and Writer

Ernst Barlach (d.1938) is best known today as an expressionist sculptor. The February talk will underscore his importance as a writer and graphic artist, his prints illustrating his plays and novels. He was a mentor of Käthe Kollwitz and, like her, a victim of Nazi persecution; many of his commissioned works were destroyed as “Degenerate Art”. The AGO’s collection contains a large body of his graphic work as well as many sculptures.

Speaker: Jane Smith
Date: Friday, February 8
Time: 11:00am (arrive at 10:30 to view works on display!)

(Please note: Attendance at P&D talks can reach full capacity in the Study Centre. Volunteers, please keep in mind that seating is given to our visitors first.)
