Join us in the P&D Study Centre

Date: Friday, January 11
Speaker: Phyllis Couzin
Time: 11:00am (arrive at 10:30 to view works on display!)

Eighteen century French art has sometimes been criticized for its taste for pleasure, entertainment, elegance, in short, for its superficiality.  While the art of this period was, in general, closely linked to the court of Louis XV, this talk will demonstrate how political undercurrents, which culminated in the French Revolution, were reflected in the art. Different artists responded to different types of patronage and to different audiences. A variety of works, both drawings and prints, will be examined including  Boucher’s rarely on view masterpiece Young Country Girl Dancing.

(Please note: Attendance at P&D talks can reach full capacity in the Study Centre. Volunteers, please keep in mind that seating is given to our visitors first.)
