Weekly Update from Our Director and CEO, Stephan Jost

Hello Everyone,

  • Anthropocene opening events continued this week with the artists’ celebration on Monday and the public opening on Wednesday evening, where Ed Burtynsky, Jennifer Baichwal and Nick de Pencier signed catalogues. Additionally, more than 15,000 people enjoyed Nuit Blanche at the AGO last weekend. Jennifer and Nick’s film in Walker Court was deeply moving and beautiful.

  • New technology always creates challenges. I have been impressed by how approachable and helpful our staff and volunteers have been to visitors as they download the new AVARA app for Anthropocene.

  • Today I am flying to the UK to attend the Frieze Art Fair in London and the Liverpool Biennial, the largest festival of contemporary art in the UK. This year it was curated by Kitty Scott, the AGO’s curator of modern and contemporary art. I’m looking forward to viewing as many installations as I can squeeze in.

I will be back in the office next Wednesday. I hope you all enjoy a safe and happy Thanksgiving with family and loved ones.
