Ontario Volunteer Service Award Winner Profile: Laura Tam

Seven exceptional AGO volunteers received awards last month for their service.  This week we learn a bit more about Laura Tam, Hands-On Centre (5-year award).

Congratulations to Laura Tam, another AGO volunteer recipient of the Ontario Service Award this year.

It was in April 2013, after her retirement, that Laura was looking for a way to ‘give-back’ and she joined the volunteers in the AGO Hand-on-Centre.  After 20 years at Bell Canada she had been volunteering in the Sherway Trillium Health Centre, until the unit she was involved in was closed.

The people at the AGO, especially the facilitators in our Hands-on-Centre, are Laura’s favorite attribute of the gallery. Laura explains, “They always make me feel welcome and I continue to learn so much from them.”

Kusama is Laura’s favorite AGO exhibit, although she says, “It’s hard to decide … they are all memorable and special in their own right.” Laura feels Kusama is a special exhibit because “it speaks to a wide audience and all ages.” Judging from the crowds I think we would have to agree!

In addition to volunteering, Laura’s list of favorite things to do also includes baking, cooking and road trips.

Congratulations Laura, and thank you for your commitment to the volunteer community at the AGO!
