Write “Her-story” at this year’s Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon – Saturday, March 24

Calling all writers, editors, and Wiki enthusiasts!

It’s estimated that only 10 per cent of Wikipedia editors identify as female. The content on Wikipedia skews the same way. The result? Too many women artists are missing from one of the Internet’s largest resources.

In response, the AGO Library & Archives is hosting a Wikipedia editing session to continue the work of diversifying visual arts content and editorship on Wikipedia. The March event celebrates International Women’s Day with a 4th edition of the annual Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon

A panel discussion exploring collaboration as a feminist strategy will kick off the event at 11 am.  This year’s event will also highlight Toronto histories of feminism, including the city’s incredible history of performance art and video.

Participants do not require any specialized knowledge of art history, and can contribute to the project in a variety of ways including researching, writing, copyediting, and supporting their peers. No Wikipedia editing experience is necessary – there will be tutorials and one-on-one coaching available.  Library staff will provide support and suggested artist pages to add or edit, although people are free to work their own subjects of interest.  Celebrate, collaborate, feel empowered and have fun!
