Staff Spotlight: Nicole Foti, Staff & Volunteer Resources

We hope you find these Staff Spotlights a great way to get to know your colleagues. This month, meet Nicole Foti, Administrative Assistant, SVR.

What do you do at the AGO? I’m relatively new to the AGO, I started as an intern with Staff & Volunteer Resources last year, and have since taken on the role of Administrative Assistant to the Director, SVR. I have my hands in a lot of things within our department. Aside from administrative duties, I play a support role for Recruitment, as well as Volunteer Services. I think what I love most is that I am constantly learning, I get to meet new people every day and my coworkers make work fun!

Is there something that you’d be willing to share that many people would not know about you? I climbed the CN Tower (1776 steps) in 18 minutes, 42 seconds to raise donations for World Wildlife Fund! That was my first and only time being in the CN Tower. I’m bilingual in English and French – I started French Immersion in Kindergarten and studied it until my final year in university!

What is your all-time favourite movie, musical artist or book and why?

Movie: Dirty Dancing because Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey!

Musical Artist: That’s a tough one. I’d have to say it’s a three-way tie between Otis Redding, Roy Orbison, and Credence Clearwater!

Book: McMafia: A Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld – the author travels across five continents to speak with participants from every level of the global underworld and reports on the phenomenon of organized crime. I read it for one of my political science courses during my undergrad and loved it!

Do you have a favourite work of art in the collection? We have so many great pieces at the Gallery but I love the ship collection! I get to walk past them on my way into Staff & Volunteer Resources every day and I never give up the chance to look them over – even if only briefly! I love the intricate details and try to imagine how accomplished the people who crafted them must have felt!
