As promised, we are sharing plans for a memorial for Ben Portis.

A memorial for Ben Portis, a previous employee of the AGO, will be held on November 4, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Olga Korper Gallery, 17 Morrow Avenue, Toronto. Please visit the Facebook page for more information.

Ben worked at the AGO from 2002 to 2009 as Assistant Curator, Contemporary Art, and recently was curator of the MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie. While at the AGO he organized exhibitions by such artists as David Urban, Rebecca Belmore, Seth, Harun Farocki and Seth Price, Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and Denyse Thomasos, among many others. He was also a writer whose essays, articles and reviews were frequently featured in Canadian Art and Border Crossings.

Ben was a familiar face and friend to many AGO volunteers and staff, and is deeply missed.
