Artful Conversation for July: The Impressionist Revolution

monet

What: The Impressionist Revolution

Many believe that the group of artists in the 19th century who referred to themselves as Impressionists were unique revolutionaries. Until then most artists created works with religious or mythological themes. Romantic pieces were mostly done in their studios. The Impressionists wanted to paint what they saw and outdoors, capturing the fleeting moments of time, space, weather…life.

Like other revolutionaries in that century (and there were many) they would not succumb to the times, even if it meant being poor. Volunteer Linda Spiegel explores these fathers of modern art in this artful conversation.  Artists discussed will include Pissarro, Monet, and (post impressionist) Van Gogh.

When: Friday, July 14 – Meet at 1:30 in Walker Court
