National Volunteer Week is a week-long celebration (Sunday April 23 – Saturday April 29) where registered charities, not-for-profit organizations and volunteer centres pause to thank and recognize their volunteers.
On behalf of the Gallery, our staff, members, and visitors, we want to say THANK YOU to all of our wonderful, dedicated and supportive volunteers. Not only are you essential to helping us achieve our goals of Art, Access and Learning, you make the AGO a Happier place to be, everyday!
Volunteer Treats and Discounts:
- cafeAGO is keeping the volunteer lounge freshly stocked with complimentary coffee and tea throughout the week
- your volunteer coordinators will be treating you to freshly baked goods all week (to go with that coffee!)
- shopAGO is offering an additional volunteer discount this week – 25% on all regularly priced merchandise ( & 10% jewellery). Please make sure to show your volunteer badge when shopping to claim
Specials Talks and Tours this week (no need to register, just drop in! Meet us in the volunteer lounge 10 minutes prior to tour and talk times, so we can walk & greet our hosts, together):
- Tuesday April 25, 4:30pm – Mike Mahoney, Executive Director, Special Projects, tours us through the new Grange Park (*weather permitting)
- Wednesday April 26, 1:30pm – Conservator Sherry Phillips and Collections Care Specialist John Williams (also a licensed mechanic), talk Trans Am, Apocalypse No. 3, Artist John Scott’s 3,3000 lb doomsday vehicle, part of the AGO collection
- Friday April 28, 11:00am – Mike Mahoney, Executive Director, Special Projects, tours us through the new Grange Park (*weather permitting)
- Friday April 28, 1:30pm – Curator Kenneth Brummel takes us through the newly installed Modernist galleries, as part of the Look:Forward Collection Reinstallation project
We’re still aiming to set up something special for our Thursday volunteers, so check the volunteer bulletin board when your’e in!

Finally, we are preparing AGO volunteer recognition certificates and pins for all of our volunteers celebrating special milestones (5 years + of service) this year. That’s over 130 of you! We’re looking forward to distributing these in early May. We’ll keep you posted!
