Ann Wilcox

Ann WilcoxIt is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Ann Wilcox, Volunteer Co-President, on May 12th at the age of 72.

Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband John Wilcox. She is survived by her devoted sons David (Polly Moore) and Jason (Claire Morawski), and her cherished grandchildren, James, Cate and Josie.

Ann began her career as an English teacher, becoming Head of the Department at Woburn Collegiate, before changing direction to become Vice Principal of Leacock C.I. She had boundless energy and an unstoppable zest for life. In her retirement years she travelled widely, visiting China, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Peru, Mexico, and of course, the much-loved countries of Europe, where she revelled in the historic art, opera, and architecture of great cities. She was passionate about the arts, and volunteered her time and energy as an enthusiastic and engaging Gallery Guide here at the AGO, becoming Volunteer Co-President, with close friend Debbie Kennedy this past year.

A celebration of Ann’s life will be held at the Rosar-Morrison Funeral Home, 467 Sherbourne Street, on Sunday May 24th. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, with a full service following. Volunteers are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, Ann’s sons, David and Jason Wilcox, have suggested friends might please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the Canadian Cancer Society.

We have left a condolence book in the volunteer lounge, and we are collecting cards that we will ensure are passed along to Ann’s family. You can give your cards directly to Holly Procktor or Brittany Reynolds in Staff and Volunteer Resources. There is also a large envelope on the bulletin board in the volunteer lounge. Several volunteers have asked about other forms of tribute here at the Gallery. We will keep you updated of any news.
