Brunch , Bacon, and Bright Ideas – a report from the latest Town Hall meeting

On February 20, the AGO held its first Town Hall of the year. Meeting highlights included:

·         The Getting To Know the Food and Beverage Department segment, where attendees were treated to delectable samples from all F&B outlets so staff and volunteers could understand what is offered and act as F&B ambassadors.

·         A brief overview by Gillian McIntyre, Interpretive Planner, of the exciting new show Francis Bacon and Henry Moore: Terror and Beauty, opening April 5.   Featuring artistic contemporaries who shared an obsession with expressing themes of suffering, struggle and survival in relation to the human body, the exhibition will examine how confinement and angst fostered their extraordinary creativity and unique visions. This is the first Canadian exhibition of Bacon’s work and also includes never-before-seen Moore artworks, from both the AGO collection and elsewhere.  Staff and volunteer previews take place April 1 and 7.

·         The Internal Communications Team announcement of the inaugural Bright Ideas Contest Winner, volunteer Margaret Johnson, for her idea,  “People’s Choice”.  This idea will involve getting visitors to vote on their favourite work in the permanent collection.  “Our team felt Margaret’s idea was a great way to engage our visitors, as well as highlight our fantastic permanent collection,” later explained Mina Bines, Manager of Corporate and Public Affairs.  Margaret is now the proud owner of an iPad for her efforts.  Mina added that the whole contest process turned out be a very positive experience.  “I’m looking forward to next year’s great ideas,” she enthused.

Congratulations to Margaret!  Watch for further details about the winning idea and be sure to share your ideas next year!

The next Town Hall will be held on May 21, 2014
