David Bowie is volunteers go above and beyond

Congratulations and thanks to our David Bowie is audio guide volunteers!

David Bowie is attracted over a hundred volunteers to distribute audio guides and provide assistance to Bowie mega-fans new to the gallery, long-time members, and everyone in between. But the biggest fans may have been the volunteers themselves. Each of the volunteers for the exhibition has a favourite Bowie era. Whether you know him as Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, The Thin White Duke, or Jareth from Labyrinth, you would have found elements of costumes from many of Bowie’s incarnations among our enthusiastic and knowledgeable group. While the AGO’s volunteer community is already diverse, this exhibition in particular found a happy balance of art history buffs, artists, fashionistas and music experts among its volunteer supporters. Some of these volunteers drove hours to be part of the exhibition’s success, and stayed late or volunteered extra days beyond their original commitment to assist and guide the huge crowds. Take a look at the pictures below for a sense of the action and excitement among David Bowie is volunteers during those jam-packed two months. To all of you who helped make this exhibition such a special experience for our visitors, thank you for your amazing and spirited contribution!
