More details:

The Museumsinsel, a complex of five world famous museums built in the 18th and 19th centuries – The Pergamon, Bode, Old and New Museums and Old National Gallery – was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. It has been central to the cultural life of Berlin and Germany for many generations and its extraordinary collections contain many of the world’s greatest masterpieces. Its historic presence and constant adaptation to a city that continues to evolve rapidly make it unique – the “crown of the city”. More than 3 million people come to Museumsinsel every year.

“Museumsinsel Berlin. Keeping the Past – Facing the Future” is a multimedia presentation of the history of the Museumsinsel and its past and current renovations, together with a master plan for future architectural development in its surrounding area. The exhibition discusses the challenges the museums in Berlin face regarding the preservation of their vast collections and the best ways to display and interpret their works to the public, whether it is in centuries-old historic buildings or modern structures. In demonstrating the interaction of Museumsinsel as a cultural hub within the urban life of Berlin, the exhibition takes as its central theme the idea that museums in the 21st Century are pivotal to the experience of great cities like Berlin
and Toronto and to their future development as centres of cultural, political, economic and social creativity. The exhibition will be open until April 26th, 2013 at the Consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in Toronto, 2 Bloor Street East, 25th floor, during office hours.
