Doris Van Den Brekel: Why I appreciate volunteers

Doris

For National Volunteer Week, we have a piece from Doris Van Den Brekel re: ‘Why I appreciate Volunteers!’

Doris Van Den Brekel is the Program Coordinator, Volunteer Training for the Education department at the Art Gallery of Ontario.

She has been with the Education department for the past 14 years.  She has continuously supported and advanced the importance of art education and access to art experiences to everyone.

Doris writes:

“It has been my great pleasure to work with volunteers at the AGO for the past 14 years. Volunteers here share a passion for art, for life-long learning and for making connections between ideas. They bring knowledge and creativity to the important work of making art relevant to our visitors of all ages. At the AGO, volunteers have formed a community that is the welcoming “face” of the AGO. Their energy and enthusiasm help spread the word about new programs, initiatives and exhibitions as ambassadors for the Gallery. Above all volunteers give us their time – a gift that enables us to reach goals we couldn’t imagine without them!”
