A Message from Education & Public Programming – AGO Art Days Planned in Event of School Closure

Dear Staff and Volunteer Colleagues,

What is happening?

  • The AGO is offering Art Days, a program designed for Toronto District School Board students who may be affected by school closures as a result of the rotating job action by elementary school teachers.

Why are we launching this program?

  • As you know, families are an important target audience for the AGO.  We want to be available to parents and children during this stressful time and deliver an engaging program as part of Create the Experience.  Although it would be preferable if students were in school, this specially designed program will be both educational and fun, and hopefully will ignite an interest in the arts, helping us to be the destination of choice to many families in the community.

What is planned?

  • The art-focused days are geared for children ages 6 to 12 and will take place predominately in the AGO’s Weston Family Learning Centre.  Activities include kid-centric tours of our collection and special exhibitions, combined with hands-on art making, activities, and games. Led by the AGO’s experienced staff of professionals, Art Days run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with extended care program hours between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

How much does it cost?

  • The cost is $75 per student for the public and $60 per student for AGO members. Pre-registration is required. Parents can register online if and when the strike day is announced.  For questions about programming or registration, please go to www.ago.net/art-days or call (416) 979-6608.

Will this offer be available to AGO staff & volunteers?

  • Yes, a 50% discount is being offered to staff and volunteers who wish to take part in this program. Please state you are a staff or volunteer member at time of registration.

What if the program is full or parents don’t want to sign up for a formal day?  Is the AGO available to them?

  • Yes, we are.  Children 12 years of age and under accompanied by an adult will enjoy free general admission to the AGO for the duration of the strike day. Adult caretakers are subject to regular admission fees.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact Lorrie Ann Smith at 416 979 6660 ext. 317.

Many thanks,

Kelly McKinley
