Detroit Institute of Arts, Host of the VCAM 2018 Conference

Did you know that the AGO is a member of Volunteer Committees of Art Museums (VCAM) ? Founded in Toronto in 1952, VCAM facilitates sharing of best practices among museum volunteers.  Each of the 116 member institution provides 2 voting representatives.  AGO Info Guide Michelle Abrams sits on the board as a Regional Director for Great Lakes – Ontario.

The purpose of VCAM is mutual education by communication among member committees and is an internationally recognized resource for information exchange on recruiting and retaining volunteers, community outreach programs, youth involvement, and adapting the needs of today’s society. VCAM helps volunteers to maximize their contributions of time and expertise to their museums.

VCAM holds a triennial conference – the next one will be held September 24-27, 2018 in Detroit.  This year’s theme is:

The role that arts organizations play in the makeup of a city and its community is changing: how museum staff and volunteers contribute to the emergence of the culturally, socially, and digitally networked arts institutions

Registration info to follow shortly.

In the meantime, VCAM is looking for volunteers and professionals supporting Art Museums, Galleries etc., to contribute an article to share through the upcoming spring VCAM Newsletter readership.  Please email articles and images to VCAM [email protected] for publication and distribution via our North American circulation. Articles Due by Friday April 6, 2018.  Past newsletters can be found here.
